This Privacy Policy describes how Blackbird (“we”, “our”, or “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our invoicing, GST, and financial management platform. By using Blackbird, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account information you provide when signing up: name, email address, phone number, and GSTIN.
  • Business and financial data you enter into the platform, such as invoices, expenses, client details, bank entries, and compliance records. This data is stored securely and used solely to provide the services you requested.
  • Usage data collected automatically, including pages visited, device type, browser, and approximate location. This helps us improve performance and user experience.
  • Payment information is handled by trusted third-party processors (such as Razorpay and Stripe). We never store full card numbers on our servers.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve Blackbird services, including invoicing, GST filing support, and financial reporting.
  • To authenticate your account and keep your session secure.
  • To send important service updates, invoice reminders, and compliance deadline notifications you opt into.
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues or security threats.
  • To comply with legal obligations under Indian law, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and applicable GST regulations.

3. Cookies & Local Storage

  • Blackbird uses cookies and browser local storage to keep you signed in and remember your preferences across visits.
  • Essential cookies are required for authentication and core functionality. They cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics and preference cookies help us understand how the platform is used. You can decline these from the cookie banner that appears when you first visit.
  • You may clear or block cookies at any time through your browser settings. Some features may not work correctly if essential cookies are blocked.

4. Data Security

  • All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest using industry-standard encryption.
  • Every table in our database enforces Row Level Security so your data is only accessible to your account.
  • We maintain full audit logs of all data access and changes.
  • Access to production infrastructure is restricted to authorized personnel only.

5. Data Sharing

  • We do not sell your personal or financial data to anyone.
  • Data is shared only with service providers essential to operating the platform (hosting, email delivery, payment processing), and only to the extent required to deliver the service.
  • We may disclose information where required by law, court order, or government regulation.
  • When you share an invoice with a client, only the information on that invoice is shared with them.
  • The Ask Blackbird assistant works entirely inside Blackbird: your questions and the records it reads to answer them are not sent to any outside AI service. The conversation stays in your browser tab and is not stored on our servers.

6. Data Retention

  • We retain your data for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period required to comply with tax and legal obligations.
  • GST-related records are retained in accordance with statutory requirements under the GST Act.
  • You may request deletion of your data at any time, subject to legal retention obligations.

7. Your Rights

  • You may access, correct, or update your personal information from your account settings at any time.
  • You may export your invoices, expenses, and reports in standard formats.
  • You may request account deletion and erasure of your personal data by contacting us.
  • You may withdraw consent for non-essential cookies and marketing communications at any time.

8. Children

  • Blackbird is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

  • We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or a prominent notice on the platform.
  • Continued use of Blackbird after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
